Mbah Calls on FG to Fast-Track Makurdi-Enugu Road Project

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, over the weekend, urged the federal government to accelerate work on the ongoing Makurdi-Enugu dual carriageway project.

Governor Mbah made the call when the Joint National Assembly Committee on Works paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Enugu, as part of its oversight of federal projects in the state.

While commending the federal government for its interventions in road construction across Enugu, the governor expressed concern over the slow pace of some projects, particularly the Makurdi-Enugu and Onitsha-Enugu expressways.

“The only challenge is the pace of work on the Makurdi-Enugu expressway. We hope the Onitsha-Enugu road can also be fast-tracked. There are several interventions, but the speed of execution remains critical, and we rely on you to ensure progress,” he said.

Governor Mbah emphasized his administration’s commitment to road infrastructure, noting that well-constructed roads are vital for economic growth. “We understand the value of roads. They connect markets, people, and industries, and ensure that our citizens live with comfort and dignity. Road development is a key component of our plan to grow Enugu’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion over the next six years,” he added.

He assured that the state government would continue to support federal contractors by removing obstacles related to rights of way, compensation, and security, to ensure uninterrupted project implementation.

Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Works, Hon. Akin Alabi, praised Governor Mbah for his proactive support for federal projects in the state. “Contractors have repeatedly said that the governor’s support has made their work smoother. Security and right-of-way issues are well managed, and this fosters faster project completion,” he said.

The visit was also attended by Senate Minority Whip, Senator Osita Ngwu, and Hon. Dennis Agbo, representing Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency.
