ICAN launches probe into alleged impersonation at exam

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has opened an investigation into a viral video alleging impersonation during one of its professional examinations.

In the video, which has been trending on social media, a candidate was reportedly caught writing the examination on behalf of a top government official. The suspect, who identified herself as “Felix” in the recording, was questioned by exam supervisors.

Reacting yesterday, ICAN Registrar/Chief Executive, Mr. Lanre Olasunkanmi, reiterated that the Institute maintains zero tolerance for all forms of examination malpractice, including impersonation.

He said: “The Institute’s examination processes are guided by globally accepted standards of integrity, and any attempt to compromise them is treated with utmost seriousness.

“In line with this commitment, ICAN has commenced a thorough investigation into the matter. Appropriate disciplinary measures will be applied in accordance with established regulations, and the findings will be communicated transparently to stakeholders.”

The Registrar urged the public to avoid speculation or drawing premature conclusions based on unverified claims.

Olasunkanmi stressed that ICAN remains committed to safeguarding the credibility of its examinations and protecting the reputation of the accounting profession in Nigeria and beyond.
