Basira Umar Becomes Katsina’s First Female Chief Registrar

Katsina State has recorded a historic milestone in its judiciary with the appointment of Basira Umar as the first female Chief Registrar of the High Court of Justice since the state’s creation in 1987.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) made the announcement in a statement on Saturday through Musa Usman, Director of Protocols at the state High Court of Justice. The appointment comes following the retirement of Mr. Mustapha Hassan-Rumah.

The Chief Registrar, who serves as the judiciary’s chief accounting officer, oversees financial management, budget preparation, and day-to-day administrative operations of the state judiciary.

Before her elevation, Umar served as Director (Deputy Chief Registrar) of the Multi-Door Court, bringing years of administrative and judicial experience to her new role.

Her appointment has been hailed as a progressive step towards gender inclusivity in Katsina’s judicial system.
