Tinubu Approves Automatic Jobs for Children of Late FCT Head of Service

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, yesterday described the late FCT Head of the Civil Service, Mrs Grace Adayilo, as a humble, loyal and dedicated administrator whose sudden death created a deep void in the system.

Wike, who spoke at her funeral service in Abuja, said Adayilo’s demise was painful because it came without warning, despite her commitment and passion for the job.

The minister recalled how she was recommended to him as someone competent and trustworthy enough to serve as Head of Service, noting that she proved herself through her diligence and selflessness.

“Very strong, very humble, very loyal. No excuses. Even if I was away, once I called, within minutes the assignment was done. She never joked with salaries and entitlements. She was also a good mother,” he said.

Wike praised her for balancing her professional and community life, describing her as a grassroots mobiliser who cared deeply for her people.

He urged mourners to draw lessons from her life of service, stressing that every opportunity to serve society should be fully utilised.

Wike also announced President Bola Tinubu’s directive granting automatic employment to Adayilo’s four children to cushion the impact of her loss on the family.

“On behalf of the FCT Administration and on behalf of Mr President, I want to express our condolences. Mr President has directed me to give the four children automatic employment, since the breadwinner is no more,” he said.

Adayilo, who was appointed FCT Head of Service in October 2024, died on September 1, 2025, shortly after ministering in church. She had earlier served as Permanent Secretary, Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat, and was widely respected for her reform-driven leadership and emphasis on staff welfare.

Following her death, Mrs Nancy Sabanti Nathan, former Permanent Secretary of the Youth Development Secretariat, was named Acting Head of Service.
