Oyebanji Urges Ekiti Residents to Keep Environment Clean, Avoid Hazardous Practices

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has urged residents to maintain a clean environment and refrain from activities that could pose environmental hazards.

Speaking in Ado Ekiti during the 2025 World Clean-up Day, Governor Oyebanji emphasized the importance of a hygienic environment for healthy living and the safety of lives. He was represented at the event by Sunkanmi Onipede, Director-General of the Ekiti State Waste Management Authority (KESWAMA).

Onipede highlighted measures by the state government to prevent epidemics and natural disasters, including the procurement of 60 additional Dano bins and three waste collection trucks. He also noted the establishment of a recycling plant at Ilokun, aimed at promoting proper waste disposal and reducing the hazards of burning waste or indiscriminate dumping.

The DG also appealed to fashion designers and others to properly dispose of unwanted fabrics, aligning with this year’s World Clean-up Day theme: “Tackling Textile and Fashion Waste through Circular Fashion.”

Oludare Asaolu, General Manager of the Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), warned residents against dumping refuse on waterways, drainage channels, and road medians, explaining that such practices could trigger flooding, epidemics, and other disasters.

Representatives of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Red Cross, and TGED commended the governor for releasing funds for the celebration and pledged support to KESWAMA in promoting environmental safety.

The event also featured a sensitization walk through Fajuyi, Ijigbo, Oja Bisi, and Oja Oba in Ado Ekiti, aimed at educating residents on embracing healthy living and environmentally friendly practices.
