37 in EFCC Net for Cyber, Crypto Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 37 suspected internet fraudsters in coordinated operations carried out in Warri, Delta State, and Owerri, Imo State.

The suspects were picked up on Friday, September 19, 2025, by operatives of the Commission’s Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate, acting on credible intelligence about their alleged involvement in cybercrime and cryptocurrency fraud.

According to the EFCC, the suspects were apprehended while allegedly using various internet-enabled devices to defraud unsuspecting victims across multiple online platforms.

A suspected kingpin, identified as Robert Ebuka Chukwuedo, reportedly fled his residence on Commissioner Street, Warri, to evade arrest. However, several of his alleged accomplices were arrested within his mansion.

The anti-graft agency said preliminary findings linked the syndicate to cryptocurrency scams, money laundering, and other internet-related offences.

Items recovered from them included exotic cars, smartphones, laptops, and fetish materials believed to have been used to fortify their operations.

The Commission added that the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
