Zamfara Monarchs Laud DSS for Arresting Arms Couriers

Traditional rulers in Zamfara State have commended the Department of State Services (DSS) for its recent operational successes, particularly the arrest of two arms couriers along the Funtua-Gusau expressway.

The Chairman of the State Council of Chiefs and Emir of Anka, Dr. Attahiru Muhammad Ahmad, who spoke on behalf of the monarchs, said the arrest had delivered a significant blow to criminal activities in the state.

“We are very pleased with the DSS for apprehending two notorious arms couriers along the Funtua-Gusau road,” the Emir said. “Reports indicate the suspects were transporting five AK-47 rifles and several rounds of high-calibre ammunition to a notorious bandit operating in Kwara State.”

He further stated that the operation sends a strong warning to criminals and reassures residents of the commitment of security agencies in combating banditry. “The arrest demonstrates that the DSS and other security agencies remain vigilant, and, insha Allah, we shall overcome banditry in our state,” the monarch added.

Security sources confirmed that, in addition to the five AK-47 rifles, the DSS recovered 30 rounds of live ammunition, 10 walkie-talkies, N156,000 cash, and five rifle butts.

Zamfara, a state long plagued by insecurity, recently witnessed another attack on a mosque in Gidan Turbe village, Tsafe Local Government Area, with about 40 worshippers abducted. Last month, the Zamfara State House of Assembly held a special session to address rising insecurity and appealed for urgent federal intervention.
