Fubara Declares End of Political Crisis, Calls for Peace and Development in Rivers State

 

 

 

Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, yesterday announced the end of the six-month political crisis in Rivers State, urging all citizens and political leaders to embrace peace, unity, and development. The Governor made the declaration during a statewide broadcast on Friday, September 19, 2025.

 

Governor Fubara recalled that the emergency rule, declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on March 18, 2025, was necessitated by the intense political crisis that threatened peace and stability in the state.

 

“I accepted to abide by the state of emergency and chose to cooperate with Mr. President and the National Assembly, guided by my conviction that no sacrifice was too great to secure peace, stability, and progress for Rivers State,” Fubara said.

 

The Governor noted that the peace process brokered by President Tinubu successfully brought together key stakeholders, including former Governor Nyesom Wike, members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, and the state government, who have all agreed to “bury the hatchet” and work towards reconciliation.

 

Fubara emphasized that the responsibility now rests on all political actors, government institutions, and citizens to prioritize the common good and ensure the peace that has been restored remains permanent.

 

“Let us embrace this moment as a fresh beginning. We must rise above bitterness and division and channel our energies into rebuilding trust, fostering inclusiveness, and securing a peaceful and prosperous state for all,” he said.

 

The Governor also highlighted the administration’s achievements over the past two years in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and other sectors, pledging to complete all ongoing projects, revive the economy, and protect lives and property.

 

He extended gratitude to President Tinubu for his “fatherly disposition and decisive interventions,” as well as to members of the National Assembly, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society groups, women and youth organizations, and citizens whose prayers and support sustained the state during the challenging period.

 

Governor Fubara further reaffirmed his loyalty to the President and pledged to serve with humility, fear of God, and a high sense of duty. He called on all Rivers people, regardless of political, religious, or ethnic affiliation, to work together in rebuilding the state and securing a future of dignity and progress.

 

“Peace and stability have returned to Rivers State. It is now upon us to work collectively for the prosperity of our people,” he said.
