Delta State to Boost Agriculture and Security with Ranch Establishments

The Delta State government has announced plans to establish ranches across the state as part of a broader strategy to enhance food production, create jobs, and strengthen security by reducing criminal activities in forested areas.

Speaking with journalists, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, said the initiative targets both economic development and security. He added that the government is actively promoting ranching and other agro-industrial investments.

Aniagwu highlighted the state’s recent engagement with Brazil, noting that it was designed to showcase Delta’s investment potential and draw lessons from Brazil’s successful agricultural and ranching models.

“Our discussions in Brazil are progressing very well, and we are optimistic about the outcomes. The engagement has opened new prospects for industrial expansion, agricultural development, renewable energy, and job creation in the state,” he said.

He also noted ongoing talks with renewable energy firms and stakeholders in the power sector, building on prior engagements with the Rural Electrification Agency in Abuja.

Aniagwu emphasized the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to infrastructure development, industrial growth, and employment creation. “Our goal is to create a productive economy where graduates and young women can secure meaningful jobs beyond the civil service,” he said.

He reaffirmed that the Oborevwori administration remains focused on its MORE Agenda, which prioritizes infrastructure expansion, energy generation, agriculture, and industrial growth, all aimed at raising living standards and ensuring social and fiscal security in the state.
