Rivers Assembly Reconvenes Amid Tinubu, Fubara Power Game

The Rivers State House of Assembly will sit today for the first time since the end of the emergency rule imposed on the state, marking a fresh phase in the power tussle between President Bola Tinubu, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and the pro-Wike lawmakers led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule.

The plenary, slated for 10 a.m., follows Tinubu’s directive on Wednesday lifting federal control and restoring civil governance in the oil-rich state.

Sources said the lawmakers loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike, now FCT Minister, are expected to use the sitting to reaffirm their authority, even as Governor Fubara regains executive space after months of political siege.

The plenary will hold at the Conference Hall of the Legislative Quarters on Aba Road, which has served as the Assembly’s temporary chamber.

Analysts believe today’s session could set the tone for renewed confrontation or possible reconciliation in the state’s lingering political crisis.
