Otunba Fayose Quits PDP, Blasts National Leadership, Signals Political Shake-Up in Ekiti
In a development set to send ripples across Ekiti State politics, leading governorship aspirant, Otunba Emmanuel Fayose, today formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing persistent leadership crises and internal sabotage.
In a statement released by his media office in Ado-Ekiti, Fayose lamented what he described as “a clear lack of direction” from the party’s national leadership. He also accused top officials of engaging in ceaseless wrangling that has stifled the party’s growth and alienated its grassroots stakeholders.
“I am using this occasion to formally announce my decision, along with that of my teeming supporters, to resign our membership from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,” Fayose said. “Though this decision has not been easy, the state of affairs within the party compels us to look elsewhere.”
The former Ekiti State Governor did not mince words in criticising PDP’s national executives, including National Chairman Ambassador Illyasu Damagum and the National Secretary. According to Fayose, their actions appear aligned with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), undermining PDP’s relevance and credibility in Ekiti State.
He further expressed disappointment in the role of former Governor Peter Ayodele Fayose, accusing him of working against the very party he once championed, rather than uniting stakeholders ahead of upcoming elections.
Political analysts say Fayose’s exit could trigger a realignment of political forces in the state, potentially strengthening opposition or creating opportunities for new political alliances ahead of the 2026 governorship race.
The PDP has yet to respond to Fayose’s resignation, while political watchers are closely monitoring the next moves of the embattled party and its erstwhile governor.
