Osun APC Moves to Curb Infighting Ahead of 2026 Governorship Primary
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has resolved to sanitize the party and enforce discipline among members as it prepares for next year’s governorship primary election.
Speaking after a crucial meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC) at the party secretariat in Osogbo, APC State Chairman Sooko Tajudeen Lawal expressed concern over rising verbal attacks among supporters of various governorship aspirants.
“Our party is not a battlefield for personal attacks,” Lawal said. “It is disheartening and unnecessary for members of the same party to treat each other as enemies. We will not condone any form of derogatory or abusive language, either on social media, in print, or broadcast. Every aspirant must ensure their supporters behave responsibly.”
The SWC resolved to prevent any executive officer at all levels—from state to ward—from acting as coordinators for aspirants. Aspirants and their supporters were also warned against using revered leaders’ names to endorse candidates or making false claims about financial backing, with Lawal emphasizing that violations would attract “stiff penalties from the party.”
Chairman Lawal further stressed the importance of unity, saying, “The aspirations of our members should be about winning the 2026 governorship election, not exchanging insults or creating division within the party.”
The committee also called on party executives to intensify efforts in the ongoing Continuous Voters’ Registration (CVR) exercise, noting that current participation levels were “not encouraging enough.” Additionally, the SWC reviewed a programme involving the generation of 1,000 names from each ward, urging verification of its authenticity with party authorities in Abuja.
According to Lawal, the resolutions are aimed at promoting peace, unity, and orderly conduct within the APC as the state prepares for the primaries.
