NBA, EFCC Vow Stronger Collaboration in Anti-Corruption Drive
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have pledged to deepen their collaboration in the fight against corruption across Kwara State.
The commitment emerged on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, during a courtesy visit by the Ilorin Branch of the NBA, led by its chairman, Barrister Sulyman Kosemani, to the Ilorin Zonal Director of the EFCC, Daniel Isei.
Kosemani lauded the existing synergy between legal practitioners and the anti-graft agency but emphasised the need for a more robust partnership. He urged the EFCC to intensify its focus on politically exposed persons (PEPs) and public office holders to ensure accountability, particularly in the management of state funds following the increased monthly allocations after the removal of the fuel subsidy.
The NBA chairman also called for greater participation of lawyers in EFCC activities, noting that such collaboration would enhance efficiency and strengthen the relationship between the two institutions.
Responding, Isei described lawyers as indispensable allies in the anti-corruption fight. He noted, “Lawyers and law enforcement agents cannot do without each other. We can achieve more together through synergy.”
However, the EFCC boss cautioned legal practitioners against interfering in ongoing investigations and urged them to provide credible intelligence, especially in high-profile cases. He reminded them of their responsibilities as ministers in the temple of justice, advising them to offer sound counsel and avoid filing frivolous applications aimed at delaying trials.
Isei added, “Our gates are open to lawyers and other stakeholders for collaboration. We remain committed to professionalism and integrity in the discharge of our duties.”
