Insecurity: Vigilante Commander Killed in Fresh Attack on Kwara Community

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have carried out a deadly attack on Kakafu village in the Lade District of Patigi Local Government Area, killing a local vigilante commander, Tetengi.

Patriotic Insight News gathered that the attack occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, when the heavily armed assailants stormed the community on motorcycles, firing sporadically to instill fear and confusion. Sources said the bandits numbered over a dozen and were equipped with sophisticated weapons.

In the ensuing chaos, Tetengi and his vigilante team attempted to repel the attackers but were overwhelmed. The commander was shot dead, sending shockwaves through the village.

Patriotic Insight News reports that local residents’ calls for security reinforcements went unanswered during the assault. Villagers expressed deep concern over the rising frequency of attacks in Patigi LGA, warning that lack of decisive government action is emboldening criminal gangs.

Residents have urged both state and federal authorities to deploy more security personnel and provide adequate support to vigilante groups risking their lives to protect their communities.

Kwara North and South have in recent months experienced repeated attacks and kidnappings, forcing many residents to flee their ancestral homes for Ilorin, the state capital.
