Tinubu Lifts Rivers State Emergency, Fubara to Resume Thursday

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has lifted the six-month-long state of emergency in Rivers State, ordering the suspended Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to resume office on Thursday, September 18.

In a statement issued by the Presidency on Wednesday, the President directed the Deputy Governor, Ngozi Nma Odu, as well as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and Speaker Martins Amaewhule, to resume their official duties immediately.

“Accordingly, I declare that the emergency in Rivers State shall end with effect from midnight today,” the statement read. “The Governor, His Excellency Siminalayi Fubara, the Deputy Governor, Her Excellency Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, including the Speaker, Martins Amaewhule, will resume work in their offices from September 18, 2025.”

The emergency rule, which was imposed six months ago, had led to the temporary suspension of the state government, raising concerns over governance and political stability in the oil-rich state.
