“I’m Fully Committed to PDP” – Adeleke Counters Defection Reports
Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has dismissed as baseless and mischievous, reports that he is plotting to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking through his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, in a statement on Wednesday, the Governor insisted he has no reason to abandon the PDP, stressing that his loyalty to the party remains unshaken.
“The Governor is fully committed to the PDP and has no plan whatsoever to join the ADC or any other party. Those behind this misinformation are only latching onto the huge goodwill the Governor enjoys with Osun people to cause unnecessary distractions,” the statement read.
Adeleke, who described the defection speculation as the handiwork of desperate politicians, said his focus is firmly on governance and consolidating PDP structures ahead of next year’s election.
According to Rasheed, the Governor is currently preoccupied with “delivering dividends of democracy to Osun people who resoundingly gave him their mandate three years ago.”
He added that Adeleke, alongside PDP leaders, is vigorously mobilising party members for the ongoing voter registration exercise, while a wave of unsolicited endorsements across Osun has unsettled the opposition.
“The growing acceptance of the PDP government under Governor Adeleke has rattled those afraid of the will of the people. Instead of facing the reality of our growing popularity, they are peddling fake news of defection,” Rasheed said.
He urged party members and supporters to ignore the rumour and remain focused on voter mobilisation for the Governor’s re-election bid.
“As a man of the people, Governor Adeleke recognises the overwhelming goodwill and confidence Osun people have in the PDP and his leadership. He will not go against the will of the people,” the statement concluded.
