Delta Government Denies Rift Among Commissioners, Reaffirms Development Agenda

The Delta State Government has dismissed reports of a rift among members of its executive council, describing such claims as baseless and intended to distract the administration from its development initiatives.

Speaking at a press briefing in Asaba, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, said:

“Since critics cannot fault Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s performance, they are resorting to falsehood. There was no fight between commissioners, and no one in government has blamed the administration for anything. These stories are completely fabricated.”

Aniagwu emphasized that the government remains focused on critical projects and citizen empowerment programmes despite attempts at misinformation. He highlighted ongoing initiatives such as the RYSA programme under the Ministry of Youths, the MORE Biz-Up programme, the Women Empowerment Scheme, ICT training, and support for the girl-child, all aimed at mitigating economic hardship and creating opportunities for residents.

On social welfare, Aniagwu noted the recently launched widows’ welfare scheme, which provides ₦15,000 monthly to beneficiaries alongside health insurance. He added that each of the 10,000 enrolled widows received ₦45,000 upfront, representing three months in arrears. He also assured that more empowerment programmes would be rolled out from October as the rainy season subsides, strengthening the state’s local economy.

On infrastructure, the commissioner listed major projects, including the ₦59.7 billion Uromi Junction flyover in Agbor, the ₦39.3 billion Otovwodo Junction flyover in Ughelli, and the ₦35 billion Effurun-Sapele Road dualisation. He added that other road works in Warri, Abraka, and Asaba, as well as school rehabilitation projects, are being executed based on thorough needs assessments to ensure value for money.

Aniagwu concluded by reaffirming the Oborevwori administration’s commitment to the MORE Agenda, insisting that the government will not be distracted by “discordant voices” intent on spreading misinformation.
