2027: Kawu Agaka Storms Ilorin, Declares Readiness to Rescue Kwara

Engineer Suleiman Bolakale Kawu Agaka, retired Executive Director of the Rural Electrification Agency and a respected son of Ilorin Emirate, at the weekend openly declared his readiness to serve Kwara in “greater capacities,” sending shockwaves through the state’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 governorship race.

Agaka’s declaration came during a heroic homecoming in Ilorin, where he was received by a massive crowd of associates, political leaders and grassroots supporters who defied the scorching sun to welcome him at the General Tunde Idiagbon International Airport.

The carnival-like atmosphere, complete with solidarity chants, was widely interpreted as a groundswell of pressure on the former federal technocrat to enter the race to “rescue Kwara from rudderless governance.”

In an emotion-laden speech, Agaka said the clamour for credible leadership across party lines was too loud to ignore.

“Kwara is at a critical juncture. The people are yearning for purposeful, people-centred leadership backed by integrity and exposure. I am prepared to serve in greater capacities beyond the civil service,” he said.

He pledged to deploy his vast managerial experience to “reposition the state on the path of good governance, inclusiveness and sustainable growth.”

Though he stopped short of declaring a party platform, Agaka hinted that his political options remain wide open, insisting that the clamour for his entry cuts across divides.

“The calls from well-meaning Kwarans have been consistent. I am humbled and ready to serve with sincerity and vision to change the governance narrative of Kwara,” he stressed.

Observers note that his statement and the thunderous homecoming may have unsettled the ruling camp, as growing murmurs within the state suggest a fatigue with what many describe as “cosmetic governance and shallow populism.”

With Agaka’s return, insiders say the 2027 battle line may already be drawn.
