INEC: 4.44m register online, 509,929 complete physical registration
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday said no fewer than 4.44 million Nigerians have pre-registered online in the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
It also disclosed that 509,929 registrants have so far completed their physical (in-person) registration across the country.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, made this known in a statement issued in Abuja.
According to him, the online pre-registration, which commenced on August 18, had attracted 4,445,505 applications as of September 14.
Of the figure, 2,141,294 (48.17 per cent) were male, while 2,304,211 (51.83 per cent) were female. A total of 2,924,643 (65.79 per cent) were aged between 18 and 34 years, while 1,112,344 (25.02 per cent) were students.
On the combined online and physical registration, Olumekun explained that as of September 12, 509,929 registrants had completed the process. Of these, 229,758 (45.06 per cent) were male and 280,171 (54.94 per cent) were female.
A further breakdown showed that 378,132 (74.15 per cent) were youths between 18 and 34 years, while 196,529 (38.54 per cent) were students.
He added that a detailed breakdown of the registration figures by state, gender, age, occupation and disability has been uploaded on the commission’s website and official platforms.
Olumekun also announced that the online voter pre-registration in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ended on Monday, September 15.
He explained that physical registration will continue at designated centres for two weeks before it is devolved to all 62 wards in the FCT from September 29 to October 8.
