Emergency Rule Winds Down in Rivers: Fubara, Lawmakers Set for Reinstatement

The transition process has commenced in Rivers State as the six-month emergency rule imposed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approaches its end.

President Tinubu declared a state of emergency on March 18, 2025, following a protracted political crisis that rocked the oil-rich state. The declaration saw Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the State House of Assembly suspended from office.

With the six-month timeline expiring on Thursday, September 18, strong indications have emerged that Governor Fubara and the lawmakers may return to their positions.

As part of the transition programme, a public lecture themed “Democracy and Good Governance” will hold today at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

According to a notice issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Ibibia Lucky Worika, Vice Admiral (Rtd.) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, CFR, who has been serving as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, will attend the event as Special Guest.

The development signals the beginning of the handover process, expected to restore democratic governance in the state after months of direct federal control.
