APC on verge of implosion before 2027, says Udenta

The founding National Secretary of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Prof. Udenta Udenta, has predicted that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will not survive the political heat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking yesterday on ARISE News, Udenta described the APC as a “fragile and illegitimate structure” which, according to him, has weaponised state institutions to entrench its hold on power.

“This is a structure of darkness that will collapse on its own,” he declared.

Udenta accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of acting as an extension of the ruling party, alleging that the commission has been used to legitimise “electoral robbery and violence.” He further claimed that the judiciary has been compromised.

He warned that the 2027 general election would be decisive for Nigeria, particularly if former President Goodluck Jonathan decides to enter the race.

“That panic is real. If Jonathan contests, 2027 will be a day of reckoning,” he said.

Udenta maintained that only a united opposition could prevent the APC from tightening its grip on power. According to him, “If the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party fail to come together, APC will destroy this country beyond recognition.”

On governance, he accused the ruling party of worsening Nigeria’s woes.

“What APC has done is to collapse the economy, collapse security, collapse cohesion and collapse legitimacy,” he said.

The political scientist insisted that Nigerians are increasingly disillusioned with the government and will decisively reject the APC if credible alternatives emerge.

“This country cannot continue like this. The people are waiting, the people are watching, the people are suffering. 2027 is not just another election—it is the soul of the country that will be contested,” Udenta stressed.

The AD chieftain, who has been a consistent critic of President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition, had in July faulted discussions about Tinubu’s potential 2027 running mate, describing it as a humiliation of Vice President Kashim Shettima.

He also said APC governors and other party leaders endorsing Tinubu for re-election while ignoring Shettima’s role was a clear signal of a deliberate power play within the party.
