10 Million Nigerians Benefiting from Tinubu’s Development Agenda

The Presidency has stated that government investments in infrastructure under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration have helped improve the living conditions of over 10 million Nigerians.

Special Adviser to the President on Economic Matters, Tope Fasua, said in an interview with Channels TV on Tuesday that multidimensional poverty—poverty resulting from lack of access to basic social amenities rather than income alone—remains a major challenge, and that infrastructure development is central to addressing it.

“Multidimensional poverty is defined as non-income poverty, relating to the availability of basic infrastructure,” Fasua explained. “The only way to reduce it is to fund infrastructure—roads, bridges, power, renewable energy, water, schools, and health facilities. These are essential for improving living conditions.”

Fasua noted that official data on multidimensional poverty has not been updated since 2022. However, his own estimates suggest a significant reduction in the number of Nigerians living under such conditions. “From my calculations, about 10 million Nigerians have been positively impacted so far,” he said.

He further stressed that sustained investment in infrastructure would be critical for maintaining this progress and further reducing poverty levels across the country.
