Lagos CP orders forensic probe into Akingboye’s death

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered a forensic investigation into the death of former Ondo State governorship candidate, Bamidele Akingboye.

Jimoh gave the directive following the circulation of a disturbing image of Akingboye’s remains on social media, which showed visible head injuries, raising doubts about earlier reports that he died peacefully at his Victoria Garden City (VGC) residence last Wednesday.

The command, in a statement on its official X handle yesterday, said the Commissioner directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to discreetly investigate the incident.

It said detectives, supported by the Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) unit, had visited the residence where the body was found. The area has since been sealed off while forensic specialists commenced evidence gathering and analysis.

Human rights groups have urged the police to ensure a thorough and transparent probe to unravel the circumstances of his death.

Akingboye, who contested on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the November 2024 Ondo governorship election, lost to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
