ADC denies INEC confirmation of state chairmen
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed reports claiming the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed a list of the party’s state chairmen across the federation.
In a statement issued yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party described the report as “fake news” designed to cause confusion.
He explained that the process of ratifying state executives remains an internal matter strictly guided by the party’s constitution.
According to him, INEC only recognises lists submitted through the appropriate channels after due process, adding that no such comprehensive submission has been made.
“The attention of the national leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been drawn to a widely circulated statement titled ‘Coalition Update: INEC Confirms ADC State Chairmen Nationwide.’ To the best of our knowledge and verification, INEC has not issued any such confirmation, either officially or unofficially,” Abdullahi said.
The spokesman reaffirmed the party’s commitment to discipline and internal democracy, urging members and stakeholders to disregard misinformation.
The clarification comes amid ongoing leadership tussles in the ADC following INEC’s recognition of former Senate President David Mark as national chairman. A court recently summoned Mark and National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola over disputes on the party’s leadership.
The party also debunked claims of a court injunction restraining INEC from recognising the Mark-led leadership, describing such reports as fabrications pushed by “desperate political jobbers
