APC’s Alleged Role in Attack on El-Rufai a Threat to Stability, Okoroma Warns
The Imo State chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Prof. James Okoroma, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of masterminding the recent attack on former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.
Okoroma, who spoke during an interview on Arise News yesterday, said intelligence gathered by his party suggested that the incident was not spontaneous but carefully orchestrated. According to him, the attackers, who disrupted an event attended by El-Rufai, were mobilised, transported in hired buses, and provided with placards for the operation.
“I cannot give you the exact names or figures behind it, but from our independent findings, the hand of the APC is evident. The hoodlums who stormed the venue were mobilised. Buses were hired, placards were produced, and money exchanged hands. This was not an accident; it was planned,” he alleged.
The ADC chieftain described the development as part of a disturbing pattern of political violence, stressing that the targeting of El-Rufai—who has become a key figure within the ADC-led coalition—could destabilise the country’s fragile democratic order.
He cautioned that such attacks, if left unchecked, might embolden perpetrators and deepen political intolerance ahead of future elections.
Rather than deploying resources to silence opponents, Okoroma urged the APC-led Federal Government to prioritise addressing Nigeria’s economic challenges, poverty, and infrastructural deficits.
“This government should focus on fixing the economy and tackling insecurity, not on suppressing opposition voices,” he added.
