Kwara targets one million women, children in health plan
The Kwara State Government has launched the 2025 Integrated Health Outreach Programme to expand access to routine immunisation and primary healthcare services across all 193 wards of the state.
The scheme, supported by development partners, is expected to reach 831,554 children under five, 166,309 infants under one year, and 207,885 pregnant women before the end of the year.
Executive Secretary of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Prof. Nusirat Elelu, said the programme would deliver vaccines, antenatal services, and general health checks, with referral systems in place for advanced medical needs. She added that nomadic outreach teams would extend the services to hard-to-reach communities.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Ayodeji Abdullahi Taoheed, said the initiative reflected the administration’s commitment to stronger healthcare delivery through recruitment, facility upgrades, and policy reforms.
Representatives of the World Health Organisation, African Field Epidemiology Network, and the National Orientation Agency pledged continued support for the state’s health agenda.
