Adeleke Promises Not to Betray Supporters, Seeks Second Term in Osun
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has assured his supporters that he will not betray their trust if given the mandate to serve a second term.
Adeleke made the pledge on Thursday during a programme organized by the Peoples First Movement (PFM), a coalition of traders’ unions and artisans, which endorsed his 2026 governorship bid. The endorsement is seen as a major boost ahead of the August 8, 2026 election and follows earlier support from civil servants, farmers, and other groups.
Addressing the gathering at Nelson Mandela Freedom Park, Adeleke said, “Great people of Osun State, I will not betray your trust. You will always find in me the light of good governance and democratic dividends. I urge all eligible voters to register and collect their voters’ cards. Your card is your certificate of authority to vote and be voted for. Mobilize your families and friends—let your voice be heard, and let your vote count.”
Luqman Ayoade, coordinator of the PFM, praised Adeleke for his achievements since taking office in November 2022. “In the last three years, he has excelled, especially in infrastructural development. We score him 100% because he has performed beyond expectations. Projects such as flyovers and road dualisation have been delivered despite limited funds,” Ayoade said.
Adeleke’s ambition has received growing support within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He was first endorsed by the Osun West Senatorial District caucus, followed by the state PDP leadership, citing his popularity, acceptance, and record in governance.
Since assuming office, Adeleke has focused on infrastructure renewal, workers’ welfare, and grassroots empowerment, which he brands as the “Imole” (light) agenda. Endorsements from traders and artisans under the PFM are particularly significant due to their influence in mobilizing grassroots voters across the state.
