Parents Implicated in Over 80% of Examination Malpractices – JAMB

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has attributed more than 80 per cent of examination malpractice cases in Nigeria to the actions of parents.

Chairman of the Special Committee on Exam Malpractice, Jake Epelle, made this revelation during an interview on Wednesday on The Morning programme aired on Arise Television.

“Our educational sector is under serious threat. Many children today are circulating with fraudulent certificates. Parents bear significant responsibility, as 80 per cent of examination malpractice is instigated by them,” he stated.

Epelle further noted that some parents who publicly complain about the treatment of their children often act disingenuously. “When these claims are investigated and proven false, they frequently end up seeking forgiveness privately. Immediate action is required to address this persistent problem,” he added.

The statement highlights the urgent need for reforms in both parental engagement and the enforcement of examination ethics to safeguard the credibility of Nigeria’s education system.
