National Grid Collapses, AEDC Reports Outage
The Nigerian national grid collapsed on Wednesday, causing widespread power outages across several regions.
Data from the Independent System Operator (ISO) indicated that electricity generation plunged from 2,917.83 megawatts (MW) to just 1.5 MW between 11:00 am and 12:00 pm.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) confirmed the incident, attributing the outage in its franchise area to a loss of supply from the national grid at 11:23 am.
“Please be informed that the power outage currently being experienced is due to a loss of supply from the national grid at 11:23 hrs today, affecting electricity supply across our franchise areas,” AEDC stated. “We are working closely with relevant stakeholders to restore power once the grid is stabilised. We appreciate the patience and understanding of our customers.”
The latest collapse adds to a series of disruptions that have raised concerns over the stability of the country’s power supply.
