INEC FCT Strategizes with Security Chiefs Ahead of Ward-Level CVR Exercise
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Aminu Kasimu Idris, has called on heads of security agencies to strengthen measures as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) extends its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to all 62 electoral wards in the FCT.
The REC made the call at a meeting with security chiefs on Wednesday, 10th September, 2025, under the aegis of the Inter-Agency Committee on Election Security (ICCES) at the INEC FCT Head Office.
Malam Idris emphasized that the extension of the CVR exercise to the ward level has significant security implications for INEC personnel, materials, and registrants. “The exercise must be conducted in a safe and secure environment, particularly in areas identified as security flashpoints,” he said.
He urged security agencies to review and remap their strategies to ensure both the CVR exercise and the forthcoming February 2026 Area Council elections in the FCT are conducted without incident.
Commissioner of Police, FCT Command and co-chairman of the meeting, CP Ajao Saka Adewale, described the responsibility of securing electoral processes in the FCT as immense, given the territory’s strategic socio-economic and political importance. He expressed confidence that with the commitment of ICCES members, potential security challenges would be effectively addressed.
CP Adewale also called for intensified voter sensitization, especially among youths, to foster awareness and ensure peaceful participation in the electoral process.
The meeting featured a presentation on CVR procedures by the Head of ICT, INEC FCT, Mr. Festus Aissien, followed by a group photograph. Other attendees included the Administrative Secretary, Mrs. Bimbo Oladunjoye, INEC FCT management staff, and heads of military and paramilitary agencies in the FCT.
