Three police officers were killed on Wednesday morning following an attack on a security checkpoint in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State. The town shares a boundary with Kwara State.

According to sources, armed assailants stormed the checkpoint, engaging officers in a fierce gun battle. The attackers reportedly seized the officers’ weapons before fleeing the scene.

In a related incident, bandits launched an overnight raid on the Tsaragi community in Bokungi, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State. The attack, which began around midnight, left one person dead and dozens of cattle stolen.

Residents said the assailants targeted Fulani settlements belonging to Alhaji Garuba and Alhaji Mumini. During the raid, Mumini’s first son, who recently got married, was reportedly killed. The attackers then rustled nearly 1,000 cattle before moving through nearby villages. Security operatives and local vigilante groups mobilized in pursuit, but it remains unclear if any of the stolen livestock were recovered.

Authorities have not yet released official statements on both incidents. Residents continue to express concern over the growing insecurity along the Kogi-Kwara border region.
