Vice President Condemns Deadly Borno Attack, Assures Justice

Vice President Kashim Shettima has condemned the recent Boko Haram attack in Darajamal community, Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, describing the incident as a national tragedy and assuring that those responsible will face justice.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, on Monday, Shettima extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the people of Borno State, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, and the Nigerian military. “These deaths have left the entire nation in collective grief, but we are confident that justice will be served for the bereaved families,” he said.

The Vice-President highlighted that President Bola Tinubu has ordered a nationwide review of security operations, including the deployment of advanced military hardware and surveillance technology. He expressed confidence in the armed forces’ capacity to confront and overcome the security challenges in the state.

Shettima also noted the federal government’s consideration of establishing state police units to bolster local security, stressing that specialised units familiar with the terrain and culture could improve grassroots intelligence and operational effectiveness.

Reports indicate that at least 63 people, including five soldiers, were killed when Boko Haram insurgents stormed Darajamal late Friday night on motorcycles, firing at residents and burning homes, shops, and vehicles. Survivors said the attackers operated for several hours before military reinforcements arrived.

The Vice-President assured continued federal support to Borno State and prayed for the affected families, reiterating that justice would be delivered.
