Osun APC Blasts Abati, Calls Out Alleged Partisan Role in LG Allocations

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Ogun State, Dr. Reuben Abati, of engaging in “professional terrorism” over his commentary on the prolonged dispute surrounding federal allocations to local government councils in Osun State.

In a statement signed by Mogaji Kola Olabisi, Director of Media and Information of the state APC, the party alleged that Abati, now a presenter on Arise News’ The Morning Show, compromised his neutrality while discussing the delayed payments, exposing himself as a political actor with a vested interest.

“All the efforts by Abati to portray himself as an unbiased presenter have failed,” the statement said. “His hatchet job on the issue clearly reveals his political leaning and lack of understanding of the subject matter.”

The APC accused Abati of ignoring the Court of Appeal judgment of 10th February 2025, which reinstated APC local government chairmen and councillors with all reliefs granted, instead relying on the obiter dicta of a June 13, 2025 ruling, which the party says does not overturn the earlier judgment.

The party also criticized Abati for not questioning Governor Ademola Adeleke’s refusal to appeal the February ruling at the Supreme Court and described the seven-month sympathy strike by the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) as being orchestrated by the governor to block APC council officials from accessing their offices.

“The people of Osun State, including youths, elders, chiefs, and traditional rulers, should not continue to suffer because the governor has formed an unholy alliance with NULGE to deny APC council chairmen and councillors their rights under the law,” the statement said.

The APC condemned Abati’s remarks for targeting Barrister Kunle Rasheed Adegoke SAN (K-RAD) without giving him an opportunity to respond, and for aligning with civil society groups and traditional institutions to push a political agenda.

The party also reminded Abati that the Supreme Court is already seized of the matter and cautioned him against further attempts to interfere with ongoing legal processes.

“This biased intervention and distortion of facts by Abati is unacceptable and undermines the integrity of both the media and the judiciary,” the APC statement concluded.
