Fear Over Popularity: APC Attacks ADC in Lagos Church, Party Claims

The African Democratic Congress (ADC)  has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of resorting to political intimidation and violence, claiming the ruling party is “scared” of the ADC’s rising popularity nationwide.

ADC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, condemned the disruption of a party meeting held at a church in Alimosho, Lagos, describing the invasion as a “new low” and a blatant disregard for sacred spaces.

“APC is really scared of the growing popularity of the ADC across the country, and it appears that the only response they have is physical assaults and intimidation.

“Yesterday’s invasion of a Church, the venue of an ADC event in Alimosho, Lagos State, is a new low showing that the APC respects nothing and holds nothing sacred, not even a Church.

“Under the APC, the Nigerian Police Force is being turned into the Gestapo wing of the ruling party,” Abdullahi said on X.

The disrupted event marked the official induction of prominent opposition figure Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour into the ADC. Reports say the gathering was met with heavy police presence and attempts by suspected thugs to interrupt proceedings.

The party also pointed to previous incidents of political persecution, including attacks on former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and other ADC leaders, as well as the sealing of party offices, as evidence of a coordinated attempt to intimidate opposition parties.

While the Lagos State Police Command maintains that its presence at the Alimosho church was solely for “public safety and crime prevention,” the ADC insists these actions are politically motivated.

Abdullahi urged Nigerians to reject violence and intimidation in politics, emphasizing that the ADC’s commitment to democratic principles remains steadfast despite attempts to stifle the party’s growth.
