Peter Obi Steps Back from Public Engagements on Doctor’s Advice

Former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has announced a temporary withdrawal from public activities following medical advice.

Obi revealed on his official X handle that he began feeling unwell while attending an event in Enugu. “I visited the hospital where the doctor gave me medication and advised me to rest for a day or two. In obedience to the doctor’s advice, I will not be able to meet my scheduled engagements this weekend,” he said, appealing for public understanding.

Prior to this, Obi participated in a tourism event in Enugu and donated ₦10 million to the Aguata Diocese of the Church of Nigeria to support the revitalisation of Good Hope Specialist Hospital, Isulo. The facility is set to become a comprehensive health complex with a School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Technology.

Obi also attended a dinner in Owerri, Imo State, in honour of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai. Despite his brief pause from public duties, he reaffirmed his commitment to advancing healthcare initiatives and fostering “a healthier Nigeria.”
