El-Rufai Urges South-East Citizens to Prioritise Voter Registration

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has called on residents of the South-East, particularly Igbo women, to take the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise seriously.

Speaking at an event in Imo State on Saturday, El-Rufai expressed concern that the region is lagging behind other parts of the country in voter registration.

He said, “Our governance is democratic; we elect our leaders, not appoint them. Voting is important, and registering to vote is a civic duty. It is not a political imperative but a responsibility every citizen must embrace.

“I appeal to mothers, sisters, and daughters to ensure that young people aged 16 and above, who will be eligible to vote in the next two years, are registered. It is crucial for the future of our democracy.”

El-Rufai’s remarks come amid nationwide efforts to boost voter registration ahead of upcoming elections, highlighting the importance of civic engagement across all regions.
