Kwara Government Launches Taskforce to Revamp Hospitality and Tourism Sector

 

The Kwara State Government has officially inaugurated a Taskforce on Hospitality Reforms, aimed at repositioning the state’s hospitality and tourism industry for growth and investment. The inauguration ceremony took place at the Conference Room of the State Ministry of Communications in Ilorin and brought together key stakeholders and government officials.

 

Speaking at the event, Chairperson of the Taskforce and Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, explained that the initiative is part of the ongoing rural and urban renewal projects under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration.

 

“The initiative is designed to restore order in the hospitality sector and create an enabling environment for investment and tourism,” Mrs. Olukoju said. “This administration is committed to ensuring Kwara’s hospitality industry is modern, well-regulated, and globally competitive.”

 

The Taskforce comprises seasoned professionals and representatives from various regulatory agencies, including:

 

Nigeria Police Force

 

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps

 

Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency

 

Kwara State Hospitality Management and Tourism Board

 

Kwara State Geographic Information Service

 

Kwara State Signage and Advertising Agency

 

Kwara State Internal Revenue Service

 

Kwara State Fire Service

 

 

Additionally, the Taskforce will collaborate with national bodies such as the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHTOUR) to ensure compliance with national standards and best practices.

 

Speaking on behalf of the members, Secretary of the Kwara State Hospitality Management Board, Akanni Adenike, praised the governor for taking bold steps to reform the sector.

 

“The governor’s vision will ensure that Kwara’s hospitality industry not only meets local standards but also competes effectively on the global stage,” she said.

 

The government has assured that the Taskforce will work swiftly to implement reforms, enhance safety and service standards, and attract both local and international investors to the state’s hospitality and tourism sector.
