CAN Urges Fairness, Unity as Muslims Celebrate Prophet’s Birth
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on political leaders across the country to prioritize the welfare of Nigerians.
The call came in CAN’s warm felicitations to Muslim faithful observing the birth of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The association said Eid-ul-Maulud provides an opportunity for reflection on values such as humility, compassion, justice, and devotion to God—principles exemplified by the Prophet.
“These values transcend religious boundaries and guide us towards building a society anchored on peace, fairness, and mutual respect,” CAN stated.
The association noted that Nigeria currently faces significant challenges, including governance issues, economic hardship, and the pressing need for credible leadership. It urged political leaders at all levels to use the occasion to promote justice, alleviate citizens’ suffering, and implement policies that strengthen unity while upholding the dignity of every Nigerian.
CAN emphasized that integrity and fairness must guide leadership if Nigeria is to realise its potential for peace and prosperity.
Archbishop Daniel Okoh, President of CAN, said in a statement on Friday:
“On behalf of the Christian community, I extend warm wishes to all Muslims for a peaceful and joyous celebration. May this Eid-ul-Maulud inspire stronger bonds of unity across faiths, renew our shared hope for Nigeria, and encourage us all to work together for a just and prosperous nation.”
