A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) miscalculated by assuming former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso would never work together.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Monday, Momodu alleged that the ruling party had taken steps to weaken opposition parties across the country.

“The truth is, they first let the ADC stay out of it, hoping that Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and Kwankwaso would never team up together. It was a miscalculation,” he said.

He further claimed that the APC, emboldened by its position, had influenced internal crises within opposition parties, citing developments within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“The APC, proud of its power, tried to create problems in all the main opposition parties. The way INEC approved the PDP faction so quickly says a lot,” he added.

On the role of the judiciary in electoral matters, Momodu expressed concern over what he described as increasing attempts by powerful actors to exert influence.

“High-level government officials are putting a lot of resources into the judiciary as part of their overall plan. When you use poverty as a weapon, people end up relying on handouts,” he said.

He warned that efforts to create a one-party system or concentrate power in a single authority would ultimately fail.

“It’s really shocking that they want to turn Nigeria into a country ruled by just one party or one person. It might take some time, but it won’t work,” Momodu said.
